Description:
This two-movement work was commissioned by cellist Zon Eastes and the Brattleboro (VT) Music Center. The first movement, “Dancing til Dawn,” displays patterns overlapping, coalescing into jagged rhythms of homophony, diverging and then coalescing again. This is a playful and bouncy movement. The second movement, “Light Rising,” opens with a theme, featuring repeated 16th-notes (perhaps specks of light). The music grows in dynamics, tempi and intensity before a break least to a return of the opening theme, which now rises into the high register, as a celebration of light.
