Pictures at an Exhibition (complete)

Composers:
  • Mussorgsky, Modest
Arrangers:
  • Reed, Alfred
  • Simpson, Carl
Detailed Instrumentation: Concert Band
Duration: 35
Description:

While the original piano version of PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION remained unpublished at the time of Mussorgsky’s death, the work was orchestrated by his friend Rimsky-Korsakov and published in 1886, although it remained largely obscure until Maurice Ravel’s (based on the Rimsky-Korsakov) brilliant orchestration in the 1920s pushed the work into its current established and popular place in the repertoire. This present orchestration for band by Carl Simpson (edited by Alfred Reed) is entirely new and primarily based on the autograph manuscript.
