  • Lecuona, Ernesto
Arrangers:
  • Tirino, Thomas Y.
Detailed Instrumentation: Piano, 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp.Perc: Hp: Str
Duration: 11
Description:

Formally premiered in Ernesto Lecuona’s Carnegie Hall debut (as a conductor) on October 10, 1943, with Carmelina Delfin as soloist, the work is a grand fantasy on themes from of the composer’s zarzuelas. Thomas Tirino’s arrangement brings percussion instruments to the score, whereas Lecuona had the percussion parts improvised (and thus they were previously missing from the orchestration). Tirino also adds a cadenza (fully notated in this score) near the end of the work where indicated in the manuscript. All elements are brought together into a newly edited and engraved offering in the rental catalog; piano solo (with 2nd piano accompaniment) is also for sale. Note that the piano part for this concert-piece differs from versions of Rapsodia Negra sold as standalone piano, or two-piano, solos past and present. However, all music incorporated in those versions are evident within this version.
