Rapsodia Cubana: On Cuban Airs
Composers:- Lecuona, Ernesto
- Tirino, Thomas Y.
Duration: 8
Description:
A fascinating and thrilling potpourri of some of Cuba’s best-known traditional melodies, beginning with La Bella Cubana by José White, followed by the habanera, Tu, the dances El Cocoyé and El Zapateo Cubano, concluding with a spicy and percussive merengue. Includes a cadenza written by Thomas Tirino, and reflects his 1996 premiere recording on Bis Records. Composed in 1955, the work has been conceived both for Two Pianos (unpublished) and for Piano and Orchestra. Tirino’s virtuosic version combines both piano parts into a single part, and supports it with orchestration of his own development and drawing in part from an earlier arrangement by Pablo Ruiz Castlellanos under the composer’s care.
