Description:
Camille Saint-Saëns’ (1835-1921) opera SAMSON AND DELILAH tells the biblical story of Delilah’s betrayal of Samson. “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix” (“My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice,” or “Softly awakes my heart,” or “My heart opens itself to your voice”) is a popular aria sung by the soprano Delilah in Act II, Scene 3 as she attempts to seduce Samson into revealing the secret of his strength. Theodore Moses Tobani (1855-1933), a musical child prodigy and composer of so much popular music that his publisher insisted on his use of many pseudonyms given how prolific he was, transcribed the cantabile for solo instrument and orchestra in 1908. Instrumentation: 1.2.2.2: 2.2.1.0: Timp.Perc(1): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Instrument (Cornet, Clarinet, Trombone/Baritone/ or Bb Saxophone) not included.
