Description:

Léo Delibes’ (1836-1891) Coppélia (1870) is a comic ballet that tells the story of a sinister doctor who has made a beautiful, life-sized dancing doll (the title character) and the young man who becomes infatuated with the doll, setting aside his heart’s true desire, his fiancé. One of Delibes’ ballets that helped to redefine the importance of music in the art form, Coppélia remains a standard part of the ballet repertoire. This edition’s score by William McDermott was copied from the original manuscript, with horns transposed to F and clarinets and trumpets transposed to A and B flat. The winds have been written into the score one pair per staff (and one pair per part in the parts) to facilitate cross-cueing in smaller orchestra. Instrumentation: 2(2nd dPicc).2.2.2: 4.2+Crnt(2).3.1: Timp.Perc(3-4): Hp: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set).
