Concerto for Cello No. 5 in C, Hob.VIIb:5 [attributed work, possibly composed by Popper]
Composers:
  • Haydn, Franz Joseph
Arrangers:
  • Popper, David
Detailed Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo Cello

Duration: 20 minutes

Description: Cellist and composer David Popper published the CELLO CONCERTO No. 5 in C major, Hob. VIIb:5, in 1899 as a completion of stetches supposedly made by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Due to more recent scholarship, the work is now believed to have been written by Popper himself. A blend of technical exploration and melodic charm, the concerto has become a familiar staple of the cello repertoire. It consists of three movements: 1. Allegro moderato, 2. Andante, and 3. Allegretto vivace. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo Cello.
