Concerto for Oboe in C minor
Composers:
- Marcello, Benedetto
Arrangers:
Detailed Instrumentation: Str (8-8-5-5-5 in set): Solo Oboe in set- Bonelli, Ettore
Duration: 10 minutes
Description: One of Benedetto Marcello’s (1686-1739) best-known and oft-performed works, this early 18th century work may be an arrangement of his brother Alessandro’s D minor oboe concerto. The three-movement work, accessible to younger oboists in addition to professionals, was hailed by great composers of the time, even transcribed for keyboard by J.S. Bach (BWV 974), whose ornamentations were often used as the basis for the oboe ornamentations in later editions. A string count of 8-8-5-5-5 is included in the set. Reprint of Ettore Bonelli’s edition and elaboration.
