Description:
AN ELIZABETHAN SONG BOOK was written as a gift for mezzo-soprano Cheryl Laser and tenor James Beal on the occasion of their marriage in June 1989. In 1999, at the suggestion of trumpeter Chris Gekker and trombonist Milt Stevens, the composer produced this version of the piece for solo instruments and piano. In 2002, the accompaniment was scored for small wind band by Stephen Bulla. AN ELIZABETHAN SONG BOOK is in four movements, each based on an Elizabethan poem containing colorful and vivid words and imagery. 1. Come Away, Come Sweet Love, 2. There is a Lady Sweet and Kind, 3. Weep You No More Sad Fountain, 4. Jack and Joan, They Think No Ill.
