Composers:- Delibes, Leo
- Isaac, Merle J.
Duration: 4
Description:
Lo Delibes (1836-1891) looked to a play of the Italian Renaissance, Torquato Tassos AMINTA, for narrative material when composing his full-length ballet SYLVIA. Choreographed by Louis Mrante, with scenery by Jules Chret, it premiered on June 14, 1876, at the new Opera Garnier in Paris. Commercially unsuccessful, it achieved a triumphant revival in 1952 and has since become one of the most-performed ballets in the repertoire. Act 3 begins with the popular March and Procession of Bacchus, depicting a colorful seaside festival in honor of the Greek god of wine. This abridged arrangement has been completed by Merle J. Isaac. Insrumentation: 2.2.2+BCl.2: 2Sax(AT): 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(3): Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set).
