Composed between 1866 and 1867 as the OVERTURE ON THREE CZECH THEMES, Mily Balakirev (1837-1910) later revised the work in 1905 into the symphonic poem IN BOHEMIA. He discovered the three Czech folk melodies in Vienna, drawn from the collection “Marriage among the Czech People” by B.M. Kulda. The selected songs are contrasting in characterone slow and reflective, another lively and merry, and the third rhythmically complexshowcasing the diverse emotional and stylistic range of Czech folk music. Instrumentation: 3(3rd d.Picc).1+EH.3.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(5): Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
