Straussiana, Op. 21
Composers:- Korngold, Erich Wolfgang
Duration: 10
Description:
Child prodigy Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957) composed his final work Straussiana in 1953. Asked to write two short pieces for secondary school orchestras, Korngold chose to adapt the music of a composer he had adapted many times in the past, Johann Strauss II, the Waltz King. Rather than select the most familiar Strauss tunes, he chose sparkling pieces from lesser-known operettas, such as Ritter Pazman, Cagliostro in Wien, and Frstin Ninetta and, reviving interest in these Strauss works. Following delivery for the secondary school orchestras, Korngold’s final contribution was to create a brilliant orchestration for symphony orchestras. Movements: I. Polka, II. Mazurka, III. Waltz. Instrumentation: 2+Picc(opt).1.2.1(opt): 2(opt).2.2.0: Timp.Perc(2): Hp(opt).Pno: Str (3 Vn parts; [7-6-5]-7-6-5 in set).
