  • Sheen, Graham

Duration: 18
Description:

Originally titled Maličkosti (Bagatelles), Maličkosti translating as “Trifles” in Czech, this cycle of five short pieces for two violins, violoncello and harmonium (or piano) was composed 1878 to add to the “home music” repertoire, music on a small scale and that is not too technically difficult. While the themes are less complicated, with fewer demands on the players, Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) clearly brought the full force of his musicianship to bear on their composition, saying to his publisher while writing them, “I am now writing some small bagatelles for two violins and viola – just imagine! This work gives me as much pleasure as if I were composing a great symphony…” This arrangement for woodwind ensemble has been completed by Graham Sheen. Instrumentation: 0.2.2+2Bssthns(or Cls).2+ CBsn (or DB): 2.0.0.0.
