Drawing on the composer’s profound insight into the Cuban mythological and 20th Century historical figure of Chacumbeles, this first symphonic scene depicts the main characters of the myth as youths. The work’s musical tapestry is woven from the narritive which is rich in Yoruba mythology and leitmotiffs representing characters and events in the epic.
