Aida Grand March
Composers:
  • Verdi, Giuseppe
Arrangers:
  • Hall, Percy
Detailed Instrumentation: Bb Trumpet 1 and 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba

Duration: 4 minutes

Description: Verdi is perhaps the most famous of the Italian opera composers. He elevated the orchestra to one of vital musical importance to the performance of an opera, rather than merely a vehicle for accompanying the singers. Aida was first performed in Cairo, Egypt, in 1871 to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal. It was a spectacular performance in every respect, and even called for elephants on the stage as a part of the production. This grand march has been lifted from the opera frequently to be performed both in concert and as a processional march. This arrangement was made especially for the Mid-Ohio Brass Quintet to perform for graduation ceremonies.
