Hungarian Dances for Flute and Piano, Nos. 11-21 (WoO 1)
Composers:- Brahms, Johannes
- Stallman, Robert
Description:
Originally written for piano four hands, this set of 21 lively dance tunes, mostly on Hungarian themes, are among Johannes Brahms’ (1833-1897) most popular works today, and they were the most profitable for him in his own lifetime also. In 1850, Brahms was introduced to “gypsy-style” music through Hungarian violinist Ede RemĂ©nyi, including the csárdás “Bártfai emlĂ©k” (Memories of Bártfa) by Hungarian composer BĂ©la KĂ©ler, which became the basis for Hungarian Dance No. 5. Arranged for many different instruments and ensembles over the years, this transcription for flute and piano has been completed by well-known American classical flutist Robert Stallman, and it is the first arrangement of the HUNGARIAN DANCES for that instrument in a complete edition. Historical background included in Stallman’s notes. Book 2 includes Nos. 11 – 21, which were written in 1880.
