Sospiri, Op. 70

Composers:
  • Elgar, Edward
Arrangers:
  • Klengel, Julius
Detailed Instrumentation: Viola and Piano
Duration: 5
Description:

Edward Elgar (1857-1934) composed his adagio for string orchestra, SOSPIRI, Op. 70, just before the onset of World War I. Originally planned to compliment his SALUT D’AMOUR for violin and piano, he decided that its intense nature of expression made it well suited it to be a stand-alone work for string orchestra, and it is often performed in that setting still. This version for viola and piano was transcribed by Julius Klengel. The original violin solo version and Klengel’s transcription for cello solo is also available from the publisher. Reprint edition.
