Trois Morceaux for Piano
Composers:
  • Boulanger, Lili
Detailed Instrumentation: Solo Piano

Duration: 6 minutes

Description: Trois Morceaux for Piano was composed in 1914 by Lili Boulanger (1893–1918), the extraordinarily gifted French composer who became the first woman to win the Prix de Rome in 1913. Written during her brief but remarkably productive career, the pieces utilizes the harmonic language and expressive subtlety associated with French Impressionism. Boulanger’s career unfolded during a transformative period in French music shaped by Debussy, Fauré, and early modernist currents, and her achievements carried particular significance in a musical world still largely dominated by men. Today Trois Morceaux is valued both as an important contribution to early 20th-century piano literature and as part of the growing recognition of Boulanger’s remarkable artistic legacy. Movements: 1. D’un Vieux Jardin (C♯ minor); 2. D’un Jardin Clair (B major); 3. Cortège (B major). Reprint edition.
