Four Songs: Art Songs by American Women Composers v. 8

Composers:
  • Brook, Claire
Arrangers:
  • Friedberg, Ruth
Detailed Instrumentation: Vocal
Description:

Claire Brook (1925 – 2012) was a native of New York and received her education there as well, earning a BA from Queens College and an MA from Columbia Unversity. After graduation, she spent the next year studying with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, but responded to the unfavorable climate for U.S. women composers in the 1950s by turning to a career in publishing. Her songs in this volume are taken from her very sensitive settings of Wallace Stevens poetic cycle “Six Significant Landscapes.”
