Four Songs: Art Songs by American Women Composers v. 15

Composers:
  • Price, Florence
Arrangers:
  • Friedberg, Ruth
Detailed Instrumentation: High Voice
Description:

This series is the first published collection of art songs set to music exclusively by American women of the 20th century. All of the songs have been selected on the basis of poetic choice, strength in text-setting, and accessibility in performance. Florence Price (1888-1953) was the first black woman composer to be widely recognized in this country, known for writing many arts songs and spiritual settings. Although quite a few of her songs were published during her lifetime and since her death, many more have remained in manuscript for over fifty years. All the songs of this volume are first-time publications.
