As commissioning bassoonist Jeffrey Keesecker wrote after the concerto’s premiere, “Eric has composed a modern masterpiece, a profound work of depth and meaning that captures the soul of the bassoon.” Following its 2002 US world premiere, Ewazen’s concerto made its European debut in Sweden the following year.
