David Rimelis

Bio:

A champion of versatility, composer arranger/guitarist/violinist/educator David Rimelis is the resident composer for The Concordia Orchestra in New York City and artistic director of Concordia’s “It’s Elementary” education program at P.S. 3 -in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, where he teaches music workshops and helps stage an annual concert featuring the children. He is also director of music education for the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children in Newark, New Jersey. His music has been performed by orchestras across the country including the Boston Pops, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, the Long Island Philharmonic, the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, and others. In December 1994, the Eugene Symphony gave the world premiere of his concerto grosso Dance of Affinity. Mr. Rimelis’ music has also been featured on PBS and New Jersey Network documentaries such as “Summer Camp,” “It’s Red, It’s Edible, It Bounces,” the cartoon “The Man Who Yelled,” and the feature film She-Devil. He was commissioned to compose two new works for the American Festival of Music in Eugene, Oregon (summer 1995), where he also served as composer-in-residence. A seasoned performer in many musical genres, Mr. Rimelis is the founder and leader of Life, which performs original world jazz in the New York City area. He has also won first place in several fiddle contests. Mr. Rimelis has created several concert programs entitled “Music is Fun*damental!” in which he serves as narrator, soloist, and general audience rouser. They have been presented to rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences across the United States with many orchestras, including the Plainfield New Jersey Symphony, The Waco Texas Symphony, and the Cascade Festival of Music in Bend, Oregon.
