Angelo Kortyka
Angelo Kortyka is a band director, marching arts consultant, composer, and freelance tubist in the Cleveland area. He has taught at Longfellow Middle School in Lorain, OH since 2023 where he directs the Middle School Band program and assists at Lorain High School. In addition to teaching, Angelo writes beginning band music, marching band drill, and consults on design for several area marching bands. Prior to working in Lorain, he served as band director at Chattanooga Central High School and St. Edward High School and assistant band director at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Schools and Woodward High School. Mr. Kortyka has consistently directed his bands to superior ratings while increasing participation in and performance opportunities for the bands he's directed. On Tuba and trombone Mr. Kortyka has recently performed with Skaatch Andersson Orchestra, The Chagrin Little Theater Studio Orchestra, Solid Brass, and Da Land Brass Band. He is also a past member and consultant with Rogues Hollow Regiment. Past college teaching positions include Adjunct Tuba Professor at Xavier University, Sul Ross State University, and Lee University. He has performed with the Patriot Band of Elyria, the Jericho Brass Band, The Chattanooga Symphony, Chattanooga Tuba-Euphonium Quartet, Moccasin Brass Quintet, Cincinnati Brass Band, Dayton Philharmonic Concert Band, Lebanon (OH) Symphony, Hofbrau Haus Band, Cincinnati Bier Band, Revolution Brass Band, C.W.R.U. Symphonic Band, the Cleveland Winds and numerous community bands. As a soloist, Mr. Kortyka has performed guest recitals at University of Texas- Permian Basin, Sul Ross State University, Xavier University, and Tennessee Technological University, and was runner-up in the 2004 Potomac Tuba Euphonium Competition. He has been on several recordings with Mark Recors, most notably the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble's 40th anniversary CD, "Legacy". He has studied with R. Winston Morris, Timothy Northcut, Anthony Kniffen, Sam Green, Mike Thornton, Gary Adams, and Tucker Jolley.
