
Amy Barlowe
Bio:Amy Barlowe, violinist and composer, received her B.M. and M.M. degrees in violin performance from the Juilliard School after studies with Ivan Galamian and Margaret Pardee. Her chamber music coaches include Josef Gingold, Felix Galimir, Samuel Rhodes and Earl Carlyss, and her theory teachers included Vincent Persichetti and Hal Overton. In 1988, she and her husband, Alan Bodman, formed the Duo [AB]2 (AB-squared). They have recorded for the Medici and Azica labels. “Their tonal production is flawless, and musically they meet the highest standards.” – American Record Guide. Ms. Barlowe’s original compositions and arrangements have been performed internationally, receiving wide acclaim. They include works for two violins and piano, an opera ballet, a Requiem Mass, and a Magnificat. Her two Celtic duos for two violas, appear on a CD recorded by the Aureole Trio released on the Koch International label. Having received the endorsement of John Williams, Ms. Barlowe’s arrangement of “Schindler’s List” for two violins and piano was published by Hal Leonard. Her Hebraique Elegie for Two Violas was performed at the 2017 Spring Gala of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center by Paul Neubauer and Matthew Lipman. Paul Huang and Danbi Um have included this work in chamber music festival performances throughout the country. Ms. Barlowe’s book, 12 Etude-Caprices in the Styles of the Great Composers, published by Alfred Music, has received rave reviews from artist/faculty throughout the world. She was on the Artist/Faculty of the Meadowmount School of Music from 1988-2013 and has taught at the Juilliard Pre-College; N.Y.’s School For Strings; Estherwood and Bowdoin Summer Music Festivals; Willamette University, in Salem, Oregon; and Ohio Conservatory. Additionally, Ms. Barlowe founded a vibrant and highly acclaimed chamber orchestra called Akron Baroque which has given numerous performances of historically informed music of the Baroque period. Ms. Barlowe’s original compositions, arrangements; and booklets have been published by Hal Leonard; Alfred; Summy Birchard; Carl Fischer; Keiser Southern Music; Ovation Press (online); Shar Products; and Black Squirrel Music, Inc.
