Southern Belles

Composers:
  • Hall, Percy
Detailed Instrumentation: Woodwind Choir
Duration: 3
Description:

This arrangement was designed for Middle School and easy High School use in situations where there are no (or few) color instruments such as oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor and baritone saxophones. The arrangements will sound complete with only flutes, clarinets and alto saxophones, but optional parts are provided for those color instruments which when added will add depth and color to the total sound. There are two Southern Belles in this short piece – ‘Aura Lee’ (a college song made popular by Elvis Pressley as ‘Love Me Tender’). and a Stephen Collins Foster favorite – ‘O Susanna.’ which became a favorite song of the 1949 Gold Rush. The songs are treated in two contrasting syles – the first being legato and lyrical, and the second is light, staccato and frivolous. Performers and audiences will enjoy these songs as arranged for this variety of woodwind instruments.
