While Gaubert (1879-1941) was distinquished performer on the flute with the Paris Opera, following his appointment as Professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire and principal conductor of leading orchestras, he began composing for wind instruments. It was during this time that he composed “Morceau Symphonique”, a piece that addresses many technical features including semiquaver passages, a wide range, lyrical melodies, unusual intervals, chromaticism and complex rhythms. It is a challenging, yet riveting and stirring piece for aspiring advanced tenor trombone players.
