In 1838, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) completed a set of six of the most technically demanding piano �tudes under the title �TUDES D’EX�CUTION TRANSCENDANTE D’APR�S PAGANINI, S. 140. Each piece was based on some of the violin CAPRICES and concertos of Niccol� Paganini. In 1951, Liszt revised the original version and retitled the collection GRANDES �TUDES DE PAGANINI, S. 141. �TUDE No. 3 is written in G-sharp minor and has been given the subtitle “La Campanella.” Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) created concert arrangements of all six �tudes between 1914 and 1921, completing LA CAMPANELLA in 1916 (BV B 68).
