Description:

Music has often served as a way to provide comfort or reflection during complex or confusing times. In the light of world events during the early part of the new millennium, this piece was written to be both peaceful (the prayerful parts of the work with lyrical trumpet lines supported by a resonant piano accompaniment) and uplifting (the praise part of the work with its rousing rhythms and joyful, lively gestures.) A final return to the opening pastoral material brings the piece to a quiet and serene conclusion. Prayer and Praise was commissioned by and is gratefully dedicated to Richard Stoelzel.
