Description:

Composed in 1951, THE PHANTOM REGIMENT is an orchestral miniature by Leroy Anderson (1908-1975). Writing about the work, he explained that it depicts a company approaching from far off, then going back into the distance. He left it up to the listener to decide what kind of group the title is referring to. The first recording, for Decca Records, took place on June 29, 1951 under the direction of the composer, and he conducted the first public performance in Ann Arbor with the University of Michigan Symphony Band on January 11, 1953. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2.2.2: (3Sax: AAT): 4.3.3.1. Perc(1-2): Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): Pno Cond Sc in set. Reprint edition.
