Description:

In 1908, Leó Weiner (1885-1960) accepted a music theory teaching position at Budapest Academy. He retired as emeritus professor in 1949. Antal Doráti, Georg Solti, and János Starker studied with him during the course of his tenure. DIVERTIMENTO NO. 1 ON OLD HUNGARIAN FOLK DANCES, Op. 20 is a five-movement work for string orchestra with optional parts for piccolo, horn, and trumpet, completed in 1923. Dedicated to Fritz Reiner, it is arguably his most popular work, depicting Hungarian dance styles such as the csárdás and the verbunkos.
