Description:

OVERTURE, SCHERZO AND FINALE IN E MAJOR, Op. 52 is an orchestral piece by Robert Schumann (1810-1856). Following the successful premiere of his SYMPHONY NO. 1, he decided to express his triumphant feelings with a symphony lacking the customary slow movement. First referred to by the composer as a “suite,” then a “sinfonietta,” the work took shape in the span of three weeks. He declined to consider it a symphony because he felt that each movement could be performed separately. Dedicated to Johannes Verhulst, the work premiered at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in December 1841. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3(opt).0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
