Ch’io mi scordi di te; Non temer, amato bene, K. 505
Composers:- Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus
Duration: 11
Description:
The great concert aria CH’IO MI SCORDI DI TE? … NON TEMER, AMATO BENE (WILL I FORGET YOU/ … FEAR NOT, BELOVED), K. 505, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) in December of 1786 in Vienna. Mozart had previously written an insertion aria based (KV 490) on the same text by Giovanni Battista Varesco for a revised version of his 1781 opera IDOMENEO to be performed privately at Prince Auersperg’s palace. The aria in that case was intended for the role of Idamante as a tenor voice. K. 505 sets the same text for soprano, and it was written specifically for Nancy Storace, likely for her farewell concert that was given on February 23, 1787, at the Theater am Kärntnertor. The work consists of two sections: 1. CH’IO MI SCORDI DI TE? (recitative), and 2. NON TEMER, AMATO BENE (aria). Instrumentation: 0.0.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Pno in set: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Solo [soprano].
