Fantasie in G minor, Op. 24
Composers:- Suk, Josef
Duration: 25
Description:
FANTASIE IN G MINOR, Op. 24 is a piece for violin and orchestra by Josef Suk (1874-1935). Completing the work between May and August 1902, he revised the work in 1903. The dedication on the manuscript to Hugo Boettinger is a humorous one, as the former violin pupil did not, in the end, achieve any notable degree of skill from his brief tutelage with Suk. The Czech Philharmonic gave the premiere at the Rudolfinum in Prague on January 9, 1904, Oskar Nedbal conducting. Cast in a single movement, it eschews the term “concerto” and follows, rather, the concert fantasy tradition of the previous century while treading new expressive ground that demonstrates a departure from the influence of Dvorák and Brahms. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2): Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): Solo Vn in set. Reprint edition.
