Description: FESTIVAL CORONATION MARCH FOR ALEXANDER III IN D MAJOR, TH 50 was written in 1883 by Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) for the coronation of Alexander III. Sergei Taneyev conducted the first performance on June 4 of that year in Sokolniki Park. Quoting music from the anthem GOD SAVE THE TSAR, the march enjoyed its American premiere during the inaugural concert at Carnegie Hall on May 5, 1891 under the composer’s baton.
