    Description:

H.M.S. PINAFORE; or, THE LASS THAT LOVED A SAILOR is a comic two-act opera and the fourth opera collaboration between composer Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) and librettist W. S. Gilbert (1836-1911). Lampooning British social class, the Royal Navy, and unqualified people who rise to positions of authority, the work became an international sensation following the London premiere at the Opera Comique on May 25, 1878, becoming the second-longest running musical theater work up until that time. The song FAIR MOON, TO THEE I SING is sung by lyric baritone Captain Corcoran at the opening of Act II, where he reviews his concerns regarding his “kindly crew rebels,” that his “daughter to a tar is partial,” that his friends have abandoned him, and that he is under threat of a court-martial. Instrumentation: 2.1.2.1: 2.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Bar. Solo. Reprint edition.
