Johann Strauss II’s (1825-1899) NORDSEEBILDER WALZER (PICTURES OF THE NORTH SEA WALTZ), Op. 390 was composed in 1879, drawing inspiration from the composer’s visit to the island of Föhr. The waltz evokes breezy maritime charm and Strauss’s signature Viennese elegance. His brother Eduard conducted its premiere at the Musikverein on November 16, 1879. It occasionally features in Strauss anniversary concerts and recordings, appreciated for its lyrical appeal and evocative seaside spirit.
