Description: Gregor Joseph Werner (1693-1766) was a composer in the Baroque style. An Austrian, he is best known for preceding Joseph Haydn, with whom he had a difficult relationship, as the Kapellmeister of the Hungarian Esterházy family. Most of his works are written in a strict contrapuntal style, although few were ever printed and most are lost.
