Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) originally composed the short SICILIENNE, Op. 78 in 1893 as an orchestral written for an abandoned theatrical production. In 1898, Fauré arranged the unperformed music both for cello and piano and as part of the incidental music for Pelléas et Mélisande, a play by Maurice Maeterlinck, orchestrated for theater orchestra. The final iteration was its inclusion in a full orchestra suite of the incidental music arranged by Faure, which was published in 1909. The incidental music premiered on June 21, 1898, in London at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Gabriel Fauré, conductor. This edition of the SICILIENNE was transcribed by Yoav Talmi. Instrumentation: 0.0.1.0: 0.0.0.0: Hp: Str (8-8-5-5-5 in set): Solo Flute in set.
