Description:
It was while reviewing the soldiers of the (French) Empire that Maestro Gabriel Pares composed the three marches: “Le Grenadier,” “Le Bombardier,” and “Le Voltigeur.” Traditionally in France, the name “VOLTIGEUR” characterizes the light, agile and lively infantry soldiers. This fine concert-March uses its (fifes) theme being judiciously in the bass and contrabass instruments as well as in other registers all throughout the piece, also serving as interlude in the trio-of which its heroic melody depicts the bravery of the “Voltigeurs.” This version is arranged by Lucien Cailliet.
