THEME AND VARIATIONS FOR THE CHANUKAH FESTIVAL is a simple work, embodying the essence of the music associated with the “Festival of Lights.” During this holiday, Jewish people celebrate one of the miracles of ancient times in which a lantern is kept burning for eight days without being refilled with oil. A theme, reminiscent of the tunes sung by children during this joyous time of year, is developed in a number of ways before being brought back with the full band. This piece was written with the idea of providing quality music in easier levels which can add a multicultural element to the festive holiday concerts that most public school bands play during the month of December.
