This programmatic pieces begins with the theme describing the Old Matador himself, a man who is brave, courageous, and filled with pride. The old man dreams of one final glorious moment in the the arena. The senora, in love with the matador, pleads with him to come to his senses and abandon his dream, but the call to battle is too strong, and the matador accepts the last challenge. The procession leading to the arena is heard and the bullfight begins. The old matador perseveres and glory is his one last time. The old matador and his senora can now spend the rest of their lives together, enjoying the pleasures that life offer.
